Module 8 – Justice and the Future
Lesson 1
Imagining the Future of Justice
Imagining the Future of Justice
Imagining the Future of Justice
What kind of justice will the future demand?
Guiding Questions
• Will justice look the same 100 years from now?
• What emerging forces will shape tomorrow’s legal systems?
• Can we imagine a justice that is both more inclusive and more intelligent?
Looking Ahead
The world is changing — fast.
Climate crisis. Artificial intelligence. Genetic engineering. Global migration. These forces are already reshaping human society. But what about justice? Will our legal systems evolve — or fall behind?
To build a just future, we must first be able to imagine it.
Philosophical Spark
Ursula K. Le Guin once wrote:
“We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable — but so did the divine right of kings.”
Just as past societies accepted injustice as “normal,” we must dare to question today’s systems — and dream beyond them.
Key Areas for Future Justice
• Climate and Intergenerational Justice – Who will protect the unborn?
• AI and Machine Ethics – Can algorithms make fair decisions?
• Post-national Law – Will global justice rise beyond borders?
• Augmented Humanity – How will bioenhancement reshape rights?
• Space and Resource Law – Who owns the Moon? Or Mars?
Reflect and Discuss
• What does a “just world” look like to you — in 50 or 100 years?
• Which current laws or systems feel outdated already?
• If you could design one law for the future, what would it be?
